Meadows Inn is a birder's paradise. We have seen about forty varieties, with the first three weeks in May being the peak activity level for the most colorful varieties. During that week, many varieties are moving in for the summer, while many others are stopping at our oasis for a rest, and to sample the food we put out daily to attract them. We have seen male Goldfinch numbering in the teens, male Rose Breasted Grosbeaks up to nine at a time, many pairs of Baltimore Orioles, and four male Scarlet Tanagers. The males are noted here because they are the most colorful, but the less brilliantly colored females are in equal numbers to make certain the "boys" don't get out of line.
At "The Meadows", we see and hear many turkeys during the year. We were fortunate enough to watch a family of eight baby turkeys grow up before our eyes. From Spring through Fall of 2004, we watched them dutifully follow their mother and grow to adult size in a matter of months. The picture is of some of the turkeys from that same family.

We hope that the abundance of deer in the state, and in particular, in this area, do not make the deer less fun for you to watch. They eat our plants, eat the remains of the birdseed we put out, but nonetheless, they remain a joy for us to watch. The deer shown here are just a few of those we see daily. From left to right; the fawn laying completely still at the edge of our yard, the doe in spring with her young twins, and then there is 'Tilly', our resident doe eating from the feeder while Doug is less than 10 feet away taking her picture. We see deer every day, in numbers ranging from a couple to numbers in the teens, but we still enjoy watching them. We think you will too.
